Nobody Homeby Marmot

Mint

Free, or 0.03 ETH

Free for holders of Argonauts and Kaoforms and for the members of my group, one per wallet. 0.03 ETH for everyone else, two per wallet. A wallet on the list needn't connect at all: from any other wallet, give its address and claim for it; the piece goes to the listed wallet, the other one pays only the gas. Every mint is a postcard lying face down. What it shows is drawn on the chain when the mint has closed, for all of them at once, from a block that hasn't been made yet. Nothing is drawn in advance and nobody chooses, me included.

Studies

A thousand studies from the making of the edition: what the program drew along the way, kept as a record of the creative process. None of them is a piece of the edition; those are drawn on the chain when the mint has closed. Hover for a closer look, click to bring one up. Sorted by sky you can watch them go from noon to night.

About

Nobody Home

It is a little after noon, or almost dark, somewhere between Tokyo and Miami. The pool is still. A car is parked where somebody left it. Across the water stands a city you half recognise. Nobody is home. And one thing in the picture cannot be there: a door onto another hour, a moon far too large, fish going past the towers. It doesn't explain itself.

With love and thanks to Hiroshi Nagai. The blue, the ruler-straight horizon and the hard shadows are his, borrowed gladly. None of his paintings is copied. The things that can't be there tip their hat to Magritte, de Chirico, Dalí and Man Ray.

In plain words

What a piece is, and isn't

A piece of Nobody Home is a token on Robinhood Chain and the picture drawn for it, by a program stored on that same chain, from the hash of the block that closed the mint: each one different, each drawn once, none drawn in advance. The picture needs no server to exist; it is in the token. That is the whole of it. It carries no rights, no utility and no promise: no access, no rewards, no revenue, no say in anything, no roadmap, and no expectation of value now or later. Nobody, the artist included, will do anything to make a piece worth more than what someone is willing to pay for a picture they like.

The pictures are the artist's. The copyright in the program and in every picture it draws stays with Marmot. Holding a piece lets you show it anywhere, share it, and make a print for your own wall. It grants no exclusive rights to the image and no commercial ones. Prints for sale, and every other use of the pictures, remain with the artist.

The edition is offered from the European Union by an individual artist, not a company. A mint on the chain is final: it cannot be undone, refunded or exchanged for another piece. A token is not money, not a share, not a bond and not a financial product, and it is not sold as an investment. Buy one because you want the afternoon in it.
